Export Market Development Grant review calls to end ‘first in, first served’ model, add AI checks
The federal government should drop the ‘first in, first served’ model powering the Export Market Development Grant (EMDG), and consider how artificial intelligence could assess applications, according to an independent review.
But an industry leader fears some recommendations could hamper the popular but imperfect scheme and bar small businesses from tens of thousands of dollars in funding support.
Since 1974, the EMDG has offered matched grant funding to Australian small and medium-sized businesses and their representative bodies, helping them promote homegrown products and services in export markets.
