Companies could face criminal penalties over modern slavery compliance failures
The federal government plans tougher modern slavery laws, stronger enforcement powers, and new compliance measures to improve corporate accountability.
Australian companies with annual consolidated revenue exceeding $100 million will need to prove they took reasonable steps to prevent modern slavery in their supply chains, or face criminal sanctions.
This week, the federal government announced plans to strengthen Australia’s world-leading approach to preventing modern slavery, alongside new civil penalties and enforcement powers to strengthen compliance under the Modern Slavery Act.
