Social media how-to clips and demos are bringing ‘infomercials’ back in fashion
Short tutorial and demonstration videos have emerged as the top purchase trigger for Australian shoppers, according to new consumer research into how consumers discover and buy new products.
A third of the consumers surveyed by Oysterly Media said a short how-to clip is the thing that is most likely to make them buy a product, followed by deals or promotions (27%) and personalised recommendations (22%).
The results suggest the infomercial model that was popular in the 1990s and early 2000s is back in fashion, albeit with a technological upgrade, says Oysterly Media CEO Melissa Laurie.
