WhatsApp has begun allowing users to reserve unique usernames before the feature launches globally later this year.
The early reservation period comes as WhatsApp prepares to let users communicate using usernames instead of phone numbers for the first time.
It seems it’s already available for some Australian users who have been receiving notifications about reserving their username.
Until now, anyone wanting to start a conversation on WhatsApp generally needed another person’s phone number.
