Businesses to pay for myID as Digital ID expands to the private sector
Australian businesses will soon be able to use the federal government’s Digital ID system to verify customers under a major expansion of the scheme. But they’ll also have to pay to access myID under a cost-recovery model.
From December 1, 2026, accredited private Digital ID providers will be able to join the Australian Government Digital ID System (AGDIS). Businesses using myID will begin contributing to its operating costs from January 1, 2027, at the latest.
“This next stage of Digital ID reform will open the government system to private sector participation while keeping security, privacy and consumer protection at the centre,” Finance Minister Katy Gallagher said in a statement.
