Trust tax reforms could force mum-and-dad entrepreneurs into restructures they can ill afford, says the small business lobby, as attention turns to the second tranche of proposed federal budget reforms.
The Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA) on Tuesday raised concerns for small businesses operating through discretionary trusts, saying they could bear the brunt of the Albanese government’s next tax overhaul.
That planned reform, contained in the 2026-27 federal budget, proposes a new baseline 30% tax on discretionary trusts to be imposed at the trustee level.
